BALLENISLES...

The history of BallenIsles
began in 1963, when John D. MacArthur and the Professional Golfer's
Association of America contracted with golf course architects Dick Wilson
and Joe Lee to design a world class golf facility. The PGA of America
was to be headquartered in the east wing of the clubhouse and, beginning
in 1964, they would enter into a ten-year agreement with MacArthur to
host major tournament play as the home of the PGA of America. The club
was then called PGA NAtional Golf Club.
This
new PGA National Golf Club hosted the PGA Seniors' Championship from
1964 to 1973. During this ten-year period, the club boasted several
prestigious events including the PGA Championship and the World Cup
as well as the PGA Merchandise Show and the first qualifying school
for PGA tour players.
In
1973, with the expiration of the MacArthur/PGA of America agreement,
the club was renamed JDM Country Club and operated as a prestigious
local golf and country club for the next 15 years remaining host to
many celebrities and professional golfers on the three now famous courses.
In
1988, the 54 holes and surrounding real estate property were sold and
renamed BallenIsles Country Club. A multi-million dollar, 12-year plan
to replace the clubhouse, improve the property, and develop a private
upscale real estate development around the existing country club facilities
was initiated at that time.
BallenIsles
Country Club now offers its members an unparalleled variety of amenities
including the three championship courses. Since 1993, the East, North
and South courses have received in excess of $7 million in improvements,
renovations, and changes intended to enhance the members' experience
of these 54 holes.
The
72,000 square foot Grand Clubhouse opened in February 1997. The multi-million
dollar plan incorporates a main club facility, a variety of dining choices,
pro shop and various other member service facilities.
The
BallenIsles tennis complex is the only Grand Slam facility in the area,
boasting 19 courts of all four USTA playing surfaces - Har Tru, Deco
Turf, French red clay, and grass. The complex includes a 14,000 square
foot clubhouse, with pro shop, and a unique viewing promenade overlooking
the courts. The tennis club also includes a new state-of-the-art member
health and fitness center and pool.
The
new Grand Clubhouse is the crowning jewel in the beautiful array of
amenities available to the residents, members, and guests at BallenIsles.
